The membership won this
time!
At the October 9th meeting the MSA board of directors
acknowledged that requiring the release as a condition of membership
violated the bylaws. They voted to rescind the
liability release that they
had previously declared a requirement of membership, mail corrected
application forms to everyone, and return the signed releases to all those
members who did sign.
Some members who hadn’t signed the release are going to request their
existing MSA membership number when they send in their renewal form. It’s
more than just a number, because members going back to the 1950’s identify
with being among the founding fathers of MSA. And even those who have been
in the club for “only” twenty or thirty years have also grown proudly fond
of that small ID number.
The directors should be commended for withdrawing the release, but we
should all keep in mind that the board initially adopted the release with no
consideration or regard for the consequences -- and that the release would
still be in effect if MSA members had not stood up for their rights in this
organization.

MSA Rifle Shooter takes Gold at Regional
EIC Match
Midland Shooters Association High Power Rifle shooter John Leazar won the EIC Rifle match at Capitan
August 31st with a high master score of 487X10. And in doing so, he
also took the final points he needed to put himself into the realm of
Distinguished Rifle Shot. Congratulations, John. We hear that the
Distinguished Pistol badge is next. No one will be surprised when
you're Double Distinguished, a rare accomplishment for anybody, especially
for a civilian.

Board meeting
FBI to be called in by MSA secretary?
John Drissel provided a fittingly
bizarre footnote to the August 26th meeting. Calling the members' attention
to two envelopes which he said had no return addresses, he said if these
belong to you, you'd better claim them or I'm giving them to the FBI.
